Frederick Keys News Release

Frederick, Md. -The list of Keys alumni to the Major Leagues has grown by two. On Monday, former Keys utility man, Ty Kelly, was called up to the New York Mets, while on Tuesday, Ashur Tolliver got his first big league promotion, when his contract was selected by the Baltimore Orioles. Kelly and Tolliver are the 145th and 146th Keys to receive call-ups to the big leagues.

A member of the orange and black in 2012, Kelly, 27, had his contract selected by the Mets after beginning the season with their Triple-A team in Las Vegas. At the time of his promotion, Kelly led all of Minor League Baseball in batting average (.391) and on-base percentage (.478) while he ranked fifth in the minors with a 1.026 OPS. In 35 total games for the 51s Kelly batted .391 with two home runs and five RBIs. In 19 May games, he was hitting .394.

Signed by New York as a minor league free agent this past November, Kelly was originally selected by the Orioles in the 13th round of the 2009 draft out of UC Davis. A member of the Keys in 2012, Kelly batted .346 in 76 games to go with nine home runs and 41 RBIs. A midseason Carolina League all-star, he was promoted to Double-A Bowie Baysox that July.

Tolliver, 28, makes the jump to the big leagues from the Baysox, after going 1-1 with a 2.42 ERA (26 IP/7ER) in 18 games this season. He was holding left-handed batters to a .212 average. Tolliver also pitched for the Baysox in 2015, going 1-2 with a 2.91 ERA across 39 appearances (two starts).

A member of the Frederick bullpen in 2011, 2013 and 2014, Tolliver went a combined 2-2 with a 2.65 ERA with Frederick in 26 games (one start). With Frederick in 2014, he was 0-1 with a 2.51 ERA in nine games before a promotion to Double-A. Selected by the Orioles in fifth round of the 2009 draft, Tolliver registered a 3.12 ERA and a 9-9 record in 155 career minor league games before his call-up to the Major Leagues.

The Frederick Keys begin a seven-game roadtrip on Tuesday night, when the team takes on the Winston-Salem Dash at BB&T Ballpark at 7 p.m. Right-hander Matthew Grimes (5-2, 1.61 ERA) makes the start for the Keys and will be opposed by Dash righty Jordan Stephens (0-5, 5.35).
