Winston-Salem Dash News Release
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Despite another strong day at the plate from Hunter Jones, the Keys swatted 12 hits en route to a 7-1 win over the Dash at BB&T Ballpark on Tuesday night.
The Dash's lone run came on a solo shot to right from Jones in the eighth inning off reliever Luis Gonzalez. The 24-year old finished the night 2-for-4, with the aforementioned blast and a third-inning triple. In the month of May, Jones is hitting .356 with three home runs and nine RBIs.
Winston-Salem starter Jordan Stephens (0-6) cruised through the first four innings, but Frederick (21-23) broke a scoreless tie in the fifth. With a runner on first and two outs, Wynston Sawyer smacked an RBI double to left to give the Keys a 1-0 edge.
In the following frame, Frederick chased the right-hander from the game. With one on and one out, Jonah Heim hit a two-run home run to left to put the Keys up 3-0. Stephens ended the contest tossing 5.1 innings and allowing six hits and three earned runs.
The Keys added to their lead in the seventh off Kelvis Valerio. With a runner on second and one out, Sawyer lined an RBI triple down the right field line to put Frederick up four. Two batters later, Conor Bierfeldt drilled a two-run homer to left to give the Keys a 6-0 edge.
Frederick capped the scoring with a run in the ninth off reliever Colin Kleven to make it 7-1.
Keys starter Matthew Grimes (6-2) was dominant against the Dash, scattering just four hits in seven innings. The right-hander is now 2-0 against Winston-Salem, and his overall ERA now sits at 1.39.
The Dash (17-29) fall to 2-2 against the Keys this season and 5-17 at BB&T Ballpark.
#YourHomeTeam will try and rebound at BB&T Ballpark on Wednesday in the second contest of three-game set against the Keys.
