CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Jake Hernandez led the Charleston RiverDogs to a 9-3 victory in his South Atlantic League debut, going 3-for-4 with five runs batted in Friday night in front of 4,518 fans at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park. With the victory, Charleston has now set a new season-long win streak and season-long home win streak at six games.

In Hernandez's first at-bat in the bottom of the second, he drove in Isaias Tejeda and Ryan Lindemuth with a two-out single to center. Griff Gordon followed with an RBI double to increase Charleston's lead to 3-0.

Augusta (28-25 second half, 61-61 overall) scored their first run in the top of the fourth when Andrew Cain scored on a wild pitch. The RiverDogs (24-30, 58-66) plated three more in the bottom half of the frame. Hernandez hit an RBI double, scored on a double steal, and then Bo Thompson drew a bases-loaded walk, which brought the lead up to 6-1.

Charleston had their third three-run inning of the game in the bottom of the fifth. Hernandez drove in two more runs with an RBI single to center. Three batters later, he scored his third run of the game when Vince Conde reached base on a fielding error by the first baseman Chase Compton.

Augusta tallied two runs in the top of the eighth. Matt Pare hit a one-out single to drive in Compton and Cain.

Both starting pitchers were chased from the game early. Matt Marsh lasted just 3 2/3 innings for the RiverDogs, while D.J. Snelten (5-4) only made it through the first two and took the loss. Jose Mesa, Jr. (1-0) earned the win in relief in his first outing with Charleston.
