Charleston RiverDogs News Release
CHARLESTON, S.C. - Saturday night is sure to be another memorable one for the Charleston RiverDogs and their fans at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park as the team hosts Breast Cancer Awareness Night presented by United Healthcare.
The RiverDogs will be raising awareness for breast cancer as they "pink out" the park. Players, coaches and front office staffer will be decked out in pink for the game and fans are also encouraged to don pink attire for the tilt.
Perhaps the most unique promotion of the season will occur on Saturday. The first 1,000 fans (18 and over) will receive a free "Bobble Boobs" giveaway. Yes, you read that correctly ... "Bobble Boobs." The Riley Park gates open at 5 p.m. for the 6:05 p.m. game against the Augusta GreenJackets.
"We're happy we have this platform which we can use to bring awareness to this disease that affects so many," said General Manager Dave Echols. "We were able to take this serious, important cause and incorporate an element of "Fun is Good" to it. As a result it produced 'Bobble Boobs' one of the year's best giveaways in Minor League Baseball."
As part of the festivities, Charleston will welcome four daughters of breast cancer survivors to the game as bat girls. Each young lady will have the opportunity to help out the RiverDogs batboys with their duties for one half-inning each.
The RiverDogs will also team with the Shotgun Fairies to help raise funds for their team that will participate in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure on October 17. For every beer shake and pink mini bat sold on Saturday, the RiverDogs will donate $1 to the Shotgun Fairies' cause.
In addition to the proceeds from the sales, the RiverDogs will hold a raffle, throughout the game, featuring RiverDogs memorabilia in order to raise more funds for the Shotgun Fairies.
Tickets all still available for the remaining RiverDogs games this season, but you better get them quickly before they sell out. Tickets can be purchased in person, over the phone by calling 843/577-DOGS or online by visiting www.riverdogs.com.
The RiverDogs continue their four-game series against Augusta Thursday at 7:05 p.m. Charleston will send RHP Matt Marsh (2-4, 2.89) to the hill and they will face LHP Donald Snelten (5-3, 2.38 ERA) for the GreenJackets. You can listen to the action on "The Big Talker" 1250 WTMA, WTMA.com, and RiverDogs.com or watch the action on MiLB.tv.
