Greenville Drive News Release
Salisbury, MD - The hottest place in Maryland on Friday night was the Greenville Drive bat rack, as the Drive saw all nine starters collect one hit, with 16 hits in all, in a 10-5 defeat of the Delmarva Shorebirds.
Of the nine Drive (25-29, 63-61) starters, five of them collected at least two hits, with Andrew Benintendi and Hector Lorenzana leading the way with three hits apiece. Michael Chavis, Rafael Devers and Danny Mars added two knocks each from the top three spots in the lineup.
Following two runs in the top of the first from the Shorebirds (27-27, 60-62), the Drive quickly answered back, scoring seven times over the next three innings to pull away. Benintendi began the second with a single and later scored on Joseph Monge's sacrifice fly, and Lorenzana hit an RBI single to score Nick Longhi, who also singled.
Mars began the third against Dennis Torres (0-1) with a single and a steal of second, and Chavis followed with an RBI double to give the Drive the lead. Benintendi added an RBI single later in the frame, and Longhi's groundout plated another run.
In the fourth, Chavis hit a sac fly to score Lorenzana, who singled to lead off the inning, and Devers smacked a double to plate David Sopilka, who doubled as well.
Dedgar Jimenez (7-9) was the beneficiary of the Drive's offensive outburst, as he picked up the win after allowing three runs over his six innings.
The Drive scored three more times in the seventh thanks to RBI singles by Monge and Lorenzana and an RBI groundout by Sopilka.
Logan Uxa led Delmarva by going 2-4 with a two-run homer, and Elier Leyva, Ademar Rifaela and Steve Wilkerson chipped in with two hits apiece.
The teams will face off again on Saturday night in Salisbury at 7:05 PM. LH Jalen Beeks (9-4, 3.85) is scheduled to start for the Drive, and the Shorebirds will send RH Dariel Delgado (5-3, 3.51) to the mound.
