Asheville Tourists News Release

ROME, GA-- When a team finds itself in a pennant race a few things must be done in order to stay in contention. One of those things is beat the teams you are supposed to beat. On Friday evening, the Asheville Tourists did just that against the last place Rome Braves. Asheville plated a run in each of the first four frames and came away with a 4-1 victory.

Omar Carrizales began the game with a triple to right-centerfield and promptly scored on a Cesar Galvez RBI single. The Braves countered with an unearned run in the bottom of the first. Asheville responded with another in the second when Ryan Stephens singled home Max White from second.

In the third, Roberto Ramos blasted a double off the left field wall to score Galvez from first. The next inning, Carrizales and Galvez hit back-to-back two out singles, the latter scored Stephens.

Ryan Castellani earned his second win of the season by cruising through six innings. Castellani allowed three hits, all singles, the unearned run, and struck out five. Asheville's bullpen of Jared McCrummen, John Sheehan, and Josh Michalec each tossed scoreless, hitless frames. Michalec picked up his 28th save of the season.

Asheville has allowed one earned run in their last 37 innings pitched. With the win the Tourists matched a season-best fifth straight road win. Stephens finished 3-for-3 while Galvez added three hits.

The same two teams are back in action on Saturday evening with the first pitch scheduled for 6:00pm.
