Fort Worth Brahmas News Release

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas - A six goal effort gave the Brahmas the five point lead in the Southeast over Laredo as they defeated the Bucks in an offensive exhibition, 6-2, in front of the sellout crowd at the NYTEX Sports Centre.

The league's third ranked powerplay went on the job early as Bucks forward Erick Lizon took a roughing call in the first, only to have Tyler Skworchinski hammer the puck past goaltender Sebastien Centomo for a Brahmas 1-0 lead.

Four minutes into the second, the physical play picked up and a hit from Skworchinski on Laredo's Steve Weidlich along the boards caused the defenseman to lie on the ice momentarily, but was able to return to the game. It was a Texas powerplay that gave the Brahmas the two goal lead when Grant Jacobsen shot a pass from Scott Sheppard and Jordan Cameron at the 13:35 mark.

In just his third game wearing black and purple, Travis Banga recorded his third goal in the third period. Brett Jaeger went nearly 120 minutes without giving up a goal when Laredo's Serge Dube beat the goaltender on a powerplay. Texas did not allow any momentum changes with the Bucks goal as Matt Quinn and Marc Belanger led an attack ultimately earning Belanger his tenth professional goal.

Goals from Jason Deitsch and Kevin McLeod wrapped up the Brahmas scoring barrage in the third for a 6-2 victory. Bucks enforcer Rick Kozak scored Laredo's second of the night. Texas went 3-for-8 on the powerplay and Jaeger stopped 27 of 29 shots for his 18th win of the season.

The Brahmas will hit the road next week to face the Bucks once again and the Amarillo Gorillas. Texas returns to the NYTEX Sports Centre Sunday, January 25 for a matinee game against the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees. Faceoff is set for 3:05 PM.
