Scorpions Rush To Victory in South Dakota
January 17, 2009 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
New Mexico Scorpions News Release
[RAPID CITY, S.D.]-Behind a 42 save effort from Jason Wolfe, the Scorpions won 3-2 in Rapid City on Saturday night. It was the franchise's first victory against the Rush.
Unlike the previous night where the Scorpions fell behind after 20 minutes, they put the foot down and grabbed a two-goal lead. Mitch Stephens started the night's scoring 3:20 into the opening period. Seth Leonard added to the lead as he walked in front of the Rush net all alone and lit the lamp.
Defense ruled the middle period as neither team was able to score. Lanny Ramage came off the bench for Rapid City in relief or starting goaltender Miguel Beaudry at the beginning of the second period.
New Mexico wasted no time extending their lead in the third period. Leonard capitalized on a Rapid City turnover inside the offensive zone and scored his second goal of the night.
Midway through the final frame, Rapid City ended the Scorpions shutout bid. Blaine Jarvis ripped a wrist shot from the slot for his third goal of the season. Raid City drew within one as John Pelle scored a power play goal.
The Scorpions return home on Wednesday, January 21st to face Odessa on $1 Nacho Night. American Cancer Night comes up on Saturday, January 24th. Special jerseys will be worn with a post game auction to benefit the Relay for Life. Both games start at 7:15 p.m.
Group tickets specials are available for as little as 10 people. Call the Scorpions' office at (505) 881-PUCK (7825) or visit www.scorpionshockey.com to find out more information about your professional hockey team. The Scorpions have been named the 2008 Rio Rancho Rotary Business of the Year.
