Sipp and Co. Holds Suns in Check in 2-1 Win

(Eastlake, OH)—Brian Finegan drew a bases-loaded walk in the eighth inning to lift the Lake County Captains to a 2-1 win over the Hagerstown Suns on Friday night at Classic Park.

The Captains (13-8) won the final three games of the series against Hagerstown, and pulled to within 1 1/2 games of first place.

Finegan drew the walk off Hagerstown reliever Marcelo Perez (0-2). The walk came with two outs and was Perez's third walk of the inning.

Tony Sipp (3-0) started and took a no-hitter into the sixth inning for the Captains. Sipp finally gave up a double to the Suns' Dante Brinkley with two out in the sixth, but stranded him on base. Sipp left after six, giving up just the one hit. He walked four and struck out seven. In 17 innings this season, Sipp has not allowed a run, and has fanned 17 hitters.

The Captains took an early 1-0 lead in the second on a double by Finegan and an RBI single by Juan Valdes.

Hagerstown starter Blake Eager pitched well, going five innings and allowing just one run.

Scott Roehl (1-2) earned the win in relief for the Captains with two innings. He allowed an unearned run in the seventh when the Suns tied the score. Josh Harris worked the ninth, dodging a a walk and a single to post his fourth save.

The Captains played before 5,906 fans, the second-largest crowd of the season.

The Captains will now begin a four-game series in Lexington on Saturday evening at 7:05 (WELW Am 1330).
