
Braves Top Sand Gnats

Rome GA- The Rome Braves defeated the Savannah Sand Gnats 5-4 Friday night at State Mutual Stadium in front of 3,951 fans to salvage the last game of the series and break a four game losing streak.
The Sand Gnats got on the board in the first inning. Back to back doubles from Jose Contreras and Ofilio Castro gave Savannah a 1-0 lead. The Braves answered in the second. Clint Sammons lead the strike with a single, and later scored on an Ivan Terrazas base hit tying the score at 1-1.
The Braves added two runs in the fifth inning to take the lead. Matt Young had an RBI double and JC Holt an RBI single giving Rome a 3-1 advantage. Rome increased the lead 4-1 in the seventh on a run scoring triple by Johan Silva. Savannah added a run in the seventh to cut the lead and later tied the game in the eighth on a two run homer off the bat of Edgardo Baez.
The Braves took the lead again in the bottom half of the inning 5-4 as Van Pope's single drove in JC Holt. James Parr picked up the victory (2-1) and Ben Cox was the loser (1-1).
The Braves head to Charleston, SC for a four game series and return home on May 4th to take on Greenville. Rome plays a doubleheader on Thursday May 5th to make up a rainout against Greenville back on April 7th. Call the Braves ticket hotline at 706-378-5144 for ticket information.
