Gonzalez placed on DL; McCarthy activated

April 29, 2005 - South Atlantic League (SAL) - Kannapolis Intimidators News Release

Kannapolis, NC – The Kannapolis Intimidators placed LHP Gio Gonzalez on the disabled list with a pulled muscle in his side. The move is retroactive to April 26th. Through four starts Gonzalez is 2-1 with a 1.23 ERA and a league leading 38 strikeouts. Gonzalez will miss his start Friday and expects to return before his next scheduled outing.

In Gonzalez’s place, the I’s have promoted SS Ryan McCarthy from extended spring training to active duty on the Kannapolis roster. The 2004 9th round pick has been in Tucson for the last few weeks rehabbing an injured shoulder. McCarthy was an honorable mention Pioneer League All Star hitting .260 last season at Advanced Rookie Great Falls. McCarthy swatted four home runs and drove in 24 while turning 24 double plays in 31 games at shortstop.

The UCLA graduate joins the Intimidators on the heels of a 6-2 victory over the Lexington Legends. Kannapolis takes on Lexington in the finale of their four game series Friday night before heading on the road for four games with Hagerstown and four more with Lake County. All game can be heard at www.intimidatorsbaseball.com.
