Sioux City-----Sioux Falls snapped a six-game losing streak with a 5-1 win over the Explorers here Thursday. The victory for the Pheasants was only their second win in the last nine games on a current 12-game road trip. The Explorers were held to just three hits, all singles, matching their lowest total of hits in a game this season. Sioux Falls took a 1-0 lead in the second inning, but the X's came back to tie the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the second. A two-out walk to Peter Barrows started the rally. Barrows then stole second base and Wally Backman, Jr. singled to drive Barrows home with the tying run. However, Sioux Falls took the lead for good in the third inning on three consecutive singles after two out with a RBI single by Cesar Nicolas giving the Pheasants the lead. Sioux Falls banged out 13 hits with Cristian Guerrero leading the way with three hits. Jason Jarvis (4-6) took the loss for the Explorers, his third straight loss. Alan DeRatt (3-3) pitched seven innings and was credited with the win. The second game of the four-game series will be played Friday at Lewis and Clark Park with game time set for 7:05.
