Laredo Lemurs News Release
Laredo, TX - The Laredo Lemurs (23-28) hold on to win a tight 4-3 game over the Amarillo Sox (28-25) on Thursday night at Uni-Trade Stadium.
The Lemurs got the scoring going in the third with a lead-off single by John Allen. Stephen Pearson would follow up with a ground out to third that allowed Allen to advance to second. Palmer Karr Jr. would come to the plate and double to right, bring in Allen from second base. Then Uraik Marquez hit a homerun that barely cleared the right field wall to bring in two runs and put the Lemurs up 3-0 after two.
The Lemurs would pick up another run in the third with a one out single by Stephen Douglas, and a single by Javier Brito to put runners at first and third. John Allen would also single for his second hit of the night, driving in Douglas and giving the Lemurs a 4-0 lead after three.
Lemurs starting pitcher Ryan Sasaki (1-1) pitched well through five, giving up six hits and striking out seven Sox batters. This was Sasaki's second start for the Lemurs earning his first win.
Lemurs relief pitcher Chaz Roe, who has been dominate out of the pen, struggled tonight in the seventh as he allowed two Sox runners to score to make it a 4-2 game.
Roe would toe the rubber again in the eighth, giving up two hits, and another run to the Sox, to make it a 4-3 game. This was the first time all year that Roe has given up three earned runs in a game. It was the first time that any opponent has scored on Chaz in 12 outings from the pen.
Mike Benacka would come in to pitch in the ninth and the drama would continue. The Sox loaded the bases against Benacka, and with the tying run at third, and the bases loaded Adam Buschini would come to the plate, and foul out to catcher Brian Peterson to secure the Lemurs win.
