Maine Celtics News Release

PORTLAND, ME - DeShawn Sims put down 26 points and added seven key rebounds to lead the Maine Red Claws (9-9) over the visiting Dakota Wizards (4-14), 99-95 in overtime. The two Eastern Conference foes will meet again tomorrow night at 8 PM.

With three minutes left in the first quarter the Red Claws held a strong 8-1 run over the Wizards and their lead only grew. To begin the second quarter the Red Claws led by 6. Maine struggled in the second quarter, as Dakota had blocked 11 shots by the half and grabbed the 12 point lead after a 32-point second stanza. The Red Claws rallied in the third, cutting the deficit to only two early in the third quarter and shoring up on defense. Knotted at 92-all at the end of regulation, the Red Claws outscored the Wizards 7-3 in the extra session to take the 99-95 overtime win.

DeShawn Sims led all scorers with 26, while teammate Matt Janning put together a solid effort with 17 points. 19-year-old rookie Tiny Gallon put up 13 of his own while adding 16 rebounds, including 10 defensive. As has been the case all season with the unselfish Red Claws squad, six players finished in double figures, including Paul Harris who contributed 11 points in a solid effort after returning from a nagging back injury.

Dakota forward Renaldo Major contributed 19 points, guard Anthony Goods added 18, and center Chris Johnson and guard Darren Cooper both scored 14. Johnson also blocked 8 Red Claws' shots as the Wizards managed to stifle the Red Claws shooters with 14 blocked shots on the night.

The two teams will go at it again tomorrow night at the Portland Expo at 8 PM.
