Silvertips Stay in First

Everett Silvertips News Release

EVERETT, Wash. - Dario Winkler shattered a tie game with a game-winning goal, 2:45 left in regulation, lifting the Everett Silvertips to a 3-2 victory over the Tri-City Americans before 4,512 fans at XFINITY Arena on Sunday in WHL action.

The win, which kept the Silvertips ahead of Seattle by three points for first place in the U.S. Division, leveled the season series, 3-3-0-0 and gave the Silvertips a 4-1-0-0 record in games to conclude a three game-three day scenario. Carter Hart made 18 saves to tie Leland Irving with 34 wins, second on the Silvertips single-season list.

Parker AuCoin's fourth goal of the year put Tri-City ahead, 1-0 at 2:17 on a wrister from the top of the right circle, but the Tips retaliated after Evan Sarthou's delay of game (puck sent over the glass) penalty, leading to Patrick Bajkov's power play goal. He took a cross-ice feed from Matt Fonteyne, curled the puck at the right circle, and uncorked a wrister over Sarthou's blocker for a 1-1 tie at 7:22.

Dakota Krebs' giveaway was then pounced on by Carson Stank, whose 19th goal of the year put the Tips ahead at 2-1 at 10:58 on a wrister from between the circles.

The Silvertips seized control of the game with an 8-4 shots advantage in the second period and came close to extending their lead to 3-1 on two high-grade looks, including a two-on-one with Patrick Bajkov with three seconds left, and his near-miss to the upper right corner.

Tri-City capitalized and their second-ranked power play tied the game, 2-2 at 4:22 of the third period when Beau McCue's 22nd goal of the year came on a deflection from Brandon Carlo's point shot. They earned another opportunity with a four-minute double minor power play, but a Silvertips kill led to a Brandon Carlo high-sticking penalty with 1:15 remaining on the sequence.

Carlo then played a pivotal role in his tripping penalty with 4:22 left, setting up a prime Silvertips power play late in the game, opening the door to restore their lead. Carson Stadnyk, set up along the left circle, twisted away from defensive pressure and whipped a centering pass to Winkler, whose re-direction snuck through Sarthou's five-hole for a 3-2 lead with 2:45 left in regulation.

Tri-City pulled Sarthou and threatened with a sixth attacker, but a shot block by Juulsen, at the front of the net, turned away the final chance of the game.
