Game Story
The Regina Pats first ever Hockey Day Game featured a capacity crowd of 6484 fans, as the Regina Pats took on the Red Deer Rebels. Students in grades 4-8 travelled from across Southern Saskatchewan to be at the game.
The Pats entered the contest with a 2-1 record against the Rebels this year. Both teams were looking to rebound after losses on the weekend. The Rebels Evan Polei opened the scoring in a physical game at the 11:30 mark of the first. Jake Debrusk would notch his 18th, for the visitors, roughly five minutes later to extend his teams lead to 2-0.
The second period remained scoreless with Regina being outshot 12-6 in the frame. The Blue and White turned up the pressure on Red Deer in the third, creating plenty of chances including an apparent goal that was disallowed after a video review. The home team got on the board with one second left in the final frame. Sam Steel recorded his 22nd of the season with the Pats on a two man advantage. The final ended up 2-1 Red Deer.
