LANSING, Mich. - The South Bend Silver Hawks (33-33) used a six-run first inning and a five-run eighth to take down the Lansing Lugnuts (36-28) 12-0 on Thursday night at Cooley Law School Stadium.

Lugnuts starter Egan Smith (Loss, 2-2) lasted just two-thirds of an inning, allowing five hits and six earned runs, including a Raywilly Gomez two-run double and a Roberto Ortiz two-run homer.

Gomez finished with four of the Silver Hawks' 16 base hits.

Silver Hawks starter Jeff Shields (Win, 4-6) had a no-hitter broken up in the fifth inning by back-to-back singles off the bats of Carlos Perez and Michael Crouse, finishing with five innings of two-hit, three-walk shutout ball.

Dan Taylor and Chris Odegaard came in to erase any hopes of a comeback, buzzing through the Lugnuts lineup in perfect order in four innings of work.

South Bend slammed the door shut with a five-run eighth off reliever Sam Strickland, who gave up five runs on six hits in the inning.

Lansing heads to Dayton for the final three games of the first half Friday, sending righty Casey Lawrence (4-6, 3.97) to the mound to face right-hander Daniel Renken (2-7, 3.63) at Dayton's Fifth Third Field at 7:07 pm.

The Lugnuts' next series on Jackson Field will take place Friday, June 24th, through Sunday, June 26th. Tickets are available for purchase online at www.lansinglugnuts.com, at the stadium box office, and by calling 517-485-4500.
