Captains Lose 4-2, Swept by Loons

(Eastlake, OH)- Great Lakes came into Classic Park needing wins to stay in the playoff chase, and the Loons did just that completing the sweep of Lake County with a 4-2 win on Thursday night. The Captains have now lost eight straight games, the longest stretch this season.

The Loons took a 1-0 lead in the first inning; Casio Grider reached on a check swing double down the right field line to reach. With two outs, Chris Jacobs ground to third, but Giovanny Urshela threw the ball away allowing Grider to score the unearned run.

In the fifth inning, Great Lakes opened things up. Preston Mattingly hit a solo homerun to right center to make it 2-0. Jon Garcia hit his eleventh homerun of the season as the Loons went back to back. Back to back doubles by Michael Pericht and Leon Landry opened up a 4-0 lead.

The Captains cut the lead in half in the sixth. LeVon Washington doubled to start things off. Alex Monsalve tripled to right field scoring Washington. Jesus Aguilar doubled in Monsalve his 40th RBI of the year, to make it 4-2.

Ryan Christenson (6-5) picked up the win for the Loons tossing 5.2 innings allowing two runs on six hits, walking one and striking out six. Mike Rayl (4-2) was a real tough luck loser, allowing just an unearned on two hits, with 3.2 innings, no walks and striking out eight, in his first action in over two weeks. Pete Budkevics picked up the save, his fifth of the season.

Lake County will head to Grand Rapids, Michigan to finish up the first half of the season with a weekend set with West Michigan at Fifth Third Ballpark at 7:00PM.
