ROCKFORD, IL - Dylan Sikura netted the overtime winner on Sunday night at BMO Harris Bank Center, capping the comeback as the Rockford IceHogs (10-9-5) skated to a 3-2 win over the San Antonio Rampage (9-14-1).
Sikura notched his seventh goal of the season at 4:04 of the extra session, finishing a back-door feed from the right-wing boards by Jacob Nilsson to snap a six-game winless drought at home for the IceHogs.
Sikura's game-winner came shortly after the Rampage had their best chance of overtime, a 2-on-0 for Nikita Soshnikov that was stopped by the left pad of Rockford goaltender Kevin Lankinen. Lankinen made 36 saves to earn his first AHL victory.
The Rampage held a 2-1 lead in the third period after Jordan Kyrou and Jordan Nolan netted goals in the first 4:21 of the frame. Kyrou scored his fifth goal of the season and extended his personal goal-scoring streak to four games at 1:10 of the third period, firing a one-timer past Lankinen from the high slot to tie the game 1-1.
Kyrou has four goals and nine points in his last seven games.
At 4:21, Nolan put the Rampage in front with his team-leading seventh goal of the season. Ryan Olsen maintained control of the puck on the right wing inside the Rockford blue line and dished down low for Nolan. From the bottom of the right circle, Nolan's sharp-angled shot snuck through the legs of Lankinen for a 2-1 Rampage lead.
Nolan has seven goals and 13 points in his last 11 games.
Rockford drew even at 13:11 of the third period when Graham Knott beat Ville Husso from the right point for his second goal of the season. Knott was without a goal in the prior 19 games.
The IceHogs opened the scoring at 4:56 of the second period with a Jacob Nilsson deflection past Husso, his third goal of the year.
Klim Kostin dropped the gloves with Rockford defenseman Dennis Gilbert in the first period after Gilbert's open-ice hit injured Rampage forward Mackenzie MacEachern. Kostin was given a minor penalty for instigating, a fighting major, and a ten-minute misconduct. MacEachern did not return to the game.
The Rampage complete their road trip on Wednesday night in Grand Rapids with a 6 p.m. CT puck-drop at Van Andel Arena against the Grand Rapids Griffins. The game is available on The Ticket 760AM and on AHLTV.
