
Sidewinders Win Five Games in 45 Hours in Edmonton

John Patterson kept Edmonton off the board for the first six innings Monday afternoon as Tucson built an 8-0 lead and the Sidewinders coasted to an 9-4 win at TELUS Field in Edmonton.
Tucson won for the fifth time in 45 hours after sweeping double-headers Saturday night and Sunday afternoon over the Trappers, the North Division's leading squad. The Sidewinders allowed just six runs to Edmonton in the five wins with four of the runs coming in the last three innings Monday.
Edmonton opened the second half of the season at Tucson Electric Park winning four of five games over the Sidewinders producing 34 runs on 51 hits in the four wins. The Sidewinders opened a six-game, four-day series in Edmonton Friday night losing a close 4-3 game before winning five games in three days..
With the wins Tucson won 10 of 16 games in the season series despite losing six of seven during one stretch with the Trappers.
Patterson allowed just one hit through six innings while striking out seven The right-hander retired his 12th straight batter when Peter Bergeron lined a ground ball off his ankle that directed towards Lyle Overbay at first to end the frame. When Patterson went back to the mound in the seventh, Edmonton strung together five straight hits to score three runs and end his night.
Tucson took charge with a four-run third inning off Trappers starter Sun Woo Kim. Chad Tracy contributed an RBI double and Lyle Overbay followed with a run scoring single.
Overbay started the fifth inning with a double, his third hit of the game, and scored on a single from Doug Devore. Jhonny Carvajal's double chased Devore home and pushed the lead to 6-0.
Luis Terrero collected his third hit of the game in the seventh inning when he tripled in two more runs to increase the lead to 8-0. Terrero finished a home run shy of the cycle.
Ten different Sidewinders produced at least one hit with six players recording multi-hit games.
Tucson improved to 56-54. Tucson will continue its 14-game, 12-day road trip Tuesday in Memphis. Mike Gosling (9-9 5.38) will start for the Sidewinders. The Redbirds will counter with Steve Stemle (6-10 3.62). Game time is set for 5:00 p.m. (Tucson time) at Auto Zone Park.
