Biloxi Shuckers News Release

CHATTANOOGA, TN. - The Biloxi Shuckers' offense was held in check again on Monday, as the road team fell to the Chattanooga Lookouts in 10 innings at AT&T Field. The loss handed the Shuckers their third-straight loss and second series loss of the season (6-2), dropping the club to 3-1 in games that end in a walk-off. Monday's game dropped the Shuckers to 1-2 in extra innings. Despite the series loss, Biloxi remain a half game up on Pensacola in the South Division Standings.

Shuckers' starter Josh Hader continued his season-long dominance, as the southpaw allowed just one hit through the first four innings, which included a stretch of retiring 10 consecutive Lookouts to go along with six strikeouts. The Maryland native faced the minimum through the first 4.2 innings before Joe Maloney doubled to left and T.J. White struck out to end the frame.

Chattanooga (18-20) threatened against Biloxi's (22-15) ace in the sixth with Stuart Turner and Levi Michael reaching safely to start the inning. Shannon Wilkerson dropped down a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners, but a ground out by Leo Reginatto and a punchout to Daniel Palka maneuvered Hader out of the inning.

The 22-year-old and No. 4 prospect for Milwaukee (MLB.com) finished the night with six innings pitched, and gave up four hits, walked a batter, and tied a season-high with eight strikeouts. The left-hander needed 86 pitches - 55 strikes - to work through his eighth start of the season, and lowered his ERA to 0.89.

Tristan Archer came out of the bullpen to start the seventh for Biloxi and allowed a single in his first inning of work. The righty ran into jam in the eighth as Turner and Michael again reached to start the eighth and moved up 90 ft. on a ground out by Wilkerson. Reginatto flew out to right, but not deep enough for Turner to attempt a tag play from third.

Shuckers' manager went to lefty Steve Peterson to face left-handed hitting Palka, and the move worked to perfection as the reliever struck out the slugger looking to escape the threat.

Jed Bradley (3-2) had Turner reach again to start an inning in the 10th. Michael sacrificed the runner over in front of Wilkerson's ground out to third. An intentional walk to Reginatto brought up Palka with two outs. A wild pitch moved the winning run to third, and Palka poked an infield single to third to plate Turner and hand the Shuckers their first walk-off loss of the season.

Chattanooga's starter David Hurlbut did not factor into the decision, despite tossing a shutout in nine innings. The southpaw allowed just two hits and struck out seven on just 94 pitches. Both of Biloxi's hits off of the opposition were doubles to open innings: Chris McFarland (1x3, 2B) in the third and Garrett Cooper (1x4, 2B) in the eighth.

Jacob Nottingham's (0x3) seven-game hitting streak was snapped with a hitless performance.

Jake Reed (3-1) earned his third win of the season for the Lookouts by tossing a perfect 10th inning.

The Shuckers will look to avoid their first four-game losing streak of the season in game four of the five-game set at AT&T Field on Tuesday night. RHP Brooks Hall (0-0, 0.00) makes is return to the starting rotation after starting the year as a reliever for the Colorado Springs Sky Sox and Biloxi, while Chattanooga counters with RHP Aaron Slegers (2-3, 3.27). First pitch is scheduled for 6:15 p.m., with coverage starting at 5:55 p.m. on the Biloxi Shuckers' Radio Network's flagship station WGCM 1240 AM, 100.9 FM, Pascagoula's WPMO 1580 AM and the TuneIn Radio app. The contest can also be seen on milb.tv.
