Dansby's Bomb Sends M-Braves to Win in Extras

Pensacola, FL - Dansby Swanson scored three times on Monday night, including blasting the go-ahead home run in the 10th, and the Mississippi Braves sank Pensacola 4-3 at Blue Wahoos Stadium.

In the 10th with the game tied 3-3, Swanson showed bunt on the first pitch from reliever Kyle McMyne (1-3), taking a strike. He launched the next pitch, a fastball, over the left field wall to give the Braves (17-21) the lead for good.

It was Swanson's second home run for the M-Braves and third homer of the season, finishing the day 2-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored.

He also scored the tying run in the eighth. Trailing 3-2, Swanson led off the inning with a single, moved to second on a walk and third on a flyout. With Dian Toscano at the plate, an Alejandro Chacin (BS, 1) wild pitch scored to tie the game 3-3.

Bradley Roney (1-0) picked up the win, throwing two scoreless innings on two hits in relief. Madison Younginer (S, 2) pitched a 1-2-3 bottom of the tenth to seal the Braves' second straight win over the Wahoos (22-16).

Sean Newcomb took a no decision, allowing three runs on three hits over six innings in the start, striking out seven and walking three.

The Braves started the scoring against Wahoos starter Barrett Astin in the fourth. Swanson led off with a walk and Dustin Peterson doubled, his team-leading 10th of the season, to put men on second and third. Carlos Franco grounded out to second to score Swanson for a 1-0 lead. Two batters later, Toscano hit his third triple of the year for another RBI, making it 2-0.

That ended Astin's day, taking a no decision in the spot start after allowing two runs on two hits over 3 2/3 innings. Former Mississippi State hurler Nick Routt came on in relief, holding the Braves scoreless over 3 1/3 innings.

Pensacola came back with a run in each of the fourth and fifth frames to tie the game. Tony Renda tripled to lead off the bottom of the fourth and Phillip Ervin drove him home with a sacrifice fly to deep left to make it 2-1.

Then in the fifth, Calten Daal reached on a throwing error by Johan Camargo at second. Chad Wallach walked to put two on, and Bryson Smith singled on a line drive that tipped off Camargo's glove to tie the game 2-2.

In the sixth, it was Ervin again to put the Wahoos ahead 3-2. Blandino drew a walk to lead off the inning, and with him in motion from first, Ervin doubled down the left field line for an RBI.

The Braves look to take the series on Tuesday night at 6:30 PM in the fourth of five with the Blue Wahoos. Right-hander Rob Whalen (2-3, 3.47) gets the start for the Braves against right-hander Nick Travieso (2-2, 5.96).
