MARIETTA, GA - The Southern League of Professional Baseball Clubs announces its Pitcher and Player of the Week for May 9 through 15. The Mobile BayBears swept the weekly honors after righthander Edgar Garcia was selected as the Pitcher of the Week and infielder Kevin Medrano earned Player of the Week.

In just his second start of the year with Mobile, righty Edgar Garcia fired only the second nine-inning, complete game shutout in the Southern League this season. The Dominican Republic native paced his club to a 7-0 victory over the home Mississippi Braves on May 13, allowing just four hits and two walks while striking out seven M-Braves on the night. His 0.67 WHIP was shared for the lowest in the league last week.

His .600 on-base percentage was best in the league, while a .778 slugging percentage and 1.378 OPS were both top five numbers. Entering the period hitting .286, the Lee's Summit, Missouri native raised his line 105 points to a .391 batting average on the season. His biggest performance of the week came in the second game of a doubleheader with Jackson on May 15.
