Montgomery Biscuits News Release
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Biscuits outhit the Jacksonville Suns six to four, but could only muster one run, falling 4-1 at the Baseball Grounds on Monday night.
Taylor Guerrieri (2-2) was on the mound for the Biscuits (21-16), who entered Monday night's contest a game out of first place in the North Division, and while the right-hander pitched well going five innings and allowing just three runs, it was not enough on a night where the Biscuits offense was silenced by Jacksonville starter Austin Brice (2-2).
The Hong Kong native pitched six innings of one-run ball, allowing just three hits while striking out two in his second victory of the season. The Biscuits lone run off Brice would come in the top of the third on a Johnny Field RBI-groundout that plated Braxton Lee.
The Suns scored first on an RBI-groundout of their own by Southern League RBI-leader Austin Dean in the first to make it 1-0, and would get another on a fielder's choice by the designated hitter in the fifth. Jacksonville also got help from J.T. Riddle and Yefri Perez, who both delivered RBI-singles. Perez was on base four different times on Monday, scoring three runs and swiping three bases in addition to the RBI. The center fielder now leads all of minor league baseball with 28 stolen bases.
Despite the defeat, the Biscuits got another stealer performance by reliever Jared Mortensen who pitched three innings of one-hit ball, tallying seven strikeouts out of the bullpen. The Biscuits will try to avoid losing the series on Tuesday night when Ryne Stanek (1-4) does battle with Patrick Johnson (1-1) at 6:05 PM.
