Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
MOBILE, Ala. - The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (11-22) defeated the Mobile BayBears (14-18) by a 7-1 score in the third game of the five-game series at Hank Aaron Stadium on Wednesday night. The loss ended an eight-game losing streak for the Jumbo Shrimp, and is the first victory for the club on this road trip that began May 1 at Mississippi.
Jacksonville right-handed starting pitcher Robert Dugger (2-5) earned the victory, working five scoreless innings where he allowed five hits with one walk and four strikeouts. Mobile right-handed starting pitcher Matt Ball (1-2) took the loss, working five innings allowing six runs (all earned) on nine hits with a walk and six strikeouts.
Jacksonville took the game's first lead in the top of the third. The inning started with three consecutive hits from Anfernee Seymour, Magnueris Sierra, and Brian Miller to load the bases with no one out. Justin Twine grounded into a double play for the first two outs of the inning, but Seymour scored from third to give the Jumbo Shrimp a 1-0 lead. Jacksonville added two runs in the top of the fourth, first with Stone Garrett scoring from third on a Ball wild pitch to make it a 2-0 lead. Rodrigo Vigil then added a solo homer to left, Jacksonville's first home run since April 28, to put the lead at 3-0.
The Shrimp then added three runs in the top of the fifth, thanks to a Twine RBI double, then a two-run single for Garrett that grew the lead to 6-0. The BayBears cracked the scoreboard in the bottom of the seventh off Jacksonville reliever Brett Graves, with Jack Kruger's sacrifice fly to right field scoring Brandon Sandoval to make it a 6-1 score. Jacksonville added its final run in the top of the ninth. With one out Sierra hit a triple, then he was brought home by Miller with a sacrifice fly to right to put the score at 7-1, which would be the final.
Jeff Kinley turned in a scoreless eighth inning before Dylan Lee recorded a perfect ninth to preserve Jacksonville's first win since April 28.
The Jumbo Shrimp and BayBears will continue the series with the fourth game of the five-game set at Hank Aaron Stadium on Thursday night at 7:35 p.m. eastern. Right-handed pitcher Jorge Guzman (1-3, 4.22 ERA) will start for Jacksonville against a Mobile starter to be announced.
