Boise, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads defeated the Utah Grizzlies (23-15-3-1) 2-1 Friday night at Qwest Arena.

Utah outshot Idaho 40-25 in the game and 26-10 in the final two periods as they came close on several occasions, but couldn't get one more on Idaho rookie goaltender Tyler Beskorowany who stood on his head in the game.

The Grizzlies started 22-year-old rookie Marc Rinfret who made his professional debut in the game and stood tall. Utah starter Andrew Engelage came up limp at morning skate and was held out for precautionary reasons. Utah was also without defensemen Jake Gannon and Brian Kilburg in the game. Kilburg was serving a one-game ECHL suspension.

"We played hard for the full 60 minutes and could have had six goals," said Kevin Colley. "We ran into a good goalie again."

The Steelheads went up 2-0 with two goals in the first 9:13 of the game as they scored through traffic and then with three seconds left on a power-play as the puck rolled around the crease and the side of the net but the play stayed alive.

Utah made it 2-1 in a four-on-four situation as Tom May buried his second goal in two games from the far circle at 11:31 of the second period. Matt Clarke and Hugo Carpentier picked up assists.

Prior to the game, Grizzlies Head Coach Kevin Colley announced that captain Jake Gannon has been returned to the AHL's Peoria Rivermen where he played 15 games earlier this season.

Utah continues their Boise trip Saturday. Face-off is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.

The Grizzlies return home Friday, January 28 with Ontario. It is Maverik Night, with all tickets in the arena available for $5 when fans present a receipt from Maverik at the arena box office.
