Delmarva Shorebirds News Release
Salisbury, Md. - The Delmarva Shorebirds (39-39, 4-4) used a season high 10-run fourth inning to throttle the Greensboro Grasshoppers (43-35, 3-5) 11-3 in the series finale at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium on Thursday night. The 11 runs tie a season high, which was first achieved three days ago in game one of the series. The Shorebirds scored 32 runs over the four-game series, their highest scoring total in a series this season.
The last time the Shorebirds won a four-game series was between May 20 and May 23 when they beat Kannapolis three games to one. The last home series that the Shorebirds won was between April 30 and May 3 when they topped Charleston in three of four.
Greensboro was first to strike in the first inning. Marcell Ozuna hit a one out triple to the right-center field gap. Then, Christian Yelich hit an infield single to the right side to plate Ozuna.
After being held scoreless over the first three innings, the Shorebirds exploded for 10 runs in the fourth inning. Ty Kelly, Mike Flacco and Jeremy Nowak hit three straight singles to load the bases. Then, Michael Ohlman hit a sacrifice fly to left field to tie the game at 1-1. Garabez Rosa followed with a single to give the âBirds a 2-1 lead. After a walk to Mikey Planeta, Brenden Webb delivered a two-run single to increase the lead to 4-1. Then, Planeta scored on a passed ball by Jacob Realmuto. Later in the inning, Mike Flacco was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to increase the lead to 6-1. Nowak then hit a two-run double on the line in left field to increase the lead to 8-1. Michael Ohlman capped the scoring with a two-run single to give the âBirds a 10-1 lead. In total, 14 batters came to the plate in the half inning.
The Shorebirds tacked on one more run in the seventh on an RBI fielder's choice grounder to second by Rosa to score Nowak, who hit a leadoff double.
The Grasshoppers got a run back in the eighth on a solo homer by Ryan Fisher.
Nowak went 3-for-4 while Ohlman went 3-for-3 to pace the Shorebirds offense. Five Shorebirds recorded multiple hits and four had multiple RBIs.
Luis Noel picked up the win, his first since May 31, in six innings. He scattered six hits and two runs. Ryan Palsha tossed a scoreless seventh inning to extend his scoreless innings streak to 14.1 over six outings.
The Shorebirds open a three-game series against Lakewood on Friday night at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. LHP Tim Berry is the scheduled starter for Delmarva.
