POWER REPLAY: West Virginia lost 5-4 in 10 innings to Lexington on Wednesday evening. The Power built a 3-0 lead in the first on a two-run home run by Dan Grovatt and a base hit by Cole White. West Virginia led 4-2 after seven innings, but Lexington scored once in the eighth, once in the ninth, and once again in the tenth to steal with win. Justin Ennis was charged with a blown save and took the loss for the Power, who saw their three game winning streak snapped.
RAMIFICATIONS: Four Power players will serve three-game suspensions as a result of Monday evening's eighth inning altercation, though the suspensions will be staggered over the next week. Elias Diaz and Andy Vasquez served the first game of their suspensions Tuesday night, Brooks Pounders and Drew Maggi's suspensions starts on Friday. Four Lexington players were also suspended: Adam Bailey, Brian Streilein, Jorge De Leon, and Jhonny Medrano.
WALK-OFF WINNER: Monday night's walk-off home run gave the Power their first final at bat win of the season. West Virginia was 0-5 in games decided in the final at bat, including two in extra innings and three doubleheader, seven inning-variety games. The extra inning win puts the Power at 2-3 during games with bonus baseball this season.
POWER V LEGENDS: West Virginia has played Lexington more than any other team dating back to the 2005 season. The Power lead the all-time series 67-61 and have the edge at Whitaker Bank Ballpark in Lexington, winning 38 of 66 games. The Legends, however, hold a 33-29 edge at Appalachian Power Park.
CLIMBING THE CHARTS: Rogelio Noris hit 15 home runs for West Virginia during the 2010 season and has added six to that total so far this season. Stephen Chapman holds the single-season record with 24, which is also the most by any player during his respective stint with West Virginia. Noris ranks third all-time in Power history with 21 career home runs, trailing only Chapman and Kenny Holmberg (22 home runs over two seasons).
LONG STAY AT THE TOP: Matt Curry no longer has enough plate appearances to qualify for the SAL leader boards. Curry was promoted to Altoona on May 30, but had enough appearances to lead the league in hitting, slugging, and on-base percentage through the start of Monday's league activity.
FLASHBACK: West Virginia finished the first half of the 2011 regular season with a winning record. In 2009 during the first year as a Pirates affiliate, the Power were 27-43 at the All-Star break with a team batting average of .254 and held a staff earned run average 4.66. At the break during the 2010 season, the club was 31-39 with a .235 average and a 4.28 ERA. West Virginia hit .258 as a team during the first half of this season and had a staff ERA of 3.68.
POWER POINTS: Former Charleston Charlie and Pittsburgh Pirate Kent Tekulve will appear at Appalachian Power Park on July 1. Jairo Marquez was promoted to Bradenton on Tuesday and LHP Porfirio Lopez was transferred back to the Power roster... West Virginia's bullpen has blown a save in three straight games.
AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh lost 2-1 at Toronto... Indianapolis bested Syracuse 7-3... Altoona lost 2-1 to Reading... Bradenton beat Palm Beach 12-9... State College beat Mahoning Valley 5-2.
ON THE AIR: All 140 West Virginia Power games can be heard on ESPN 104.5 FM and 1490 AM in Charleston, WV, across the state on the Power Radio Network, and online at milb.com. Adam Marco will call the action for each of the 70 home games this season, while the home team will provide coverage while the Power are on the road.
