
Lakewood Falls 8-4 in Series Finale Thursday

HAGERSTOWN, MD - The Hagerstown Suns took the finale of their 4 game series from the Lakewood BlueClaws with an 8-4 win on Thursday night. In the process, Hagerstown won the series 3 games to 1 and improve to 5-3 in the 2nd Half while Lakewood is now .500 at 4-4. The story of the night was the franchise record 12 walks allowed by Lakewood pitching. The BlueClaws actually outhit the Suns 12-8 in the game, but the 12 walks came back to bit Lakewood in the end.
Garett Claypool started for Lakewood and walked 6 over 5 innings of 3 run baseball. Colby Shreve came on and walked 2 over 1 2/3rd innings, and then Tyler Knigge walked 4 over the final 1 1/3rd. Hagerstown walked just 1 batter in the game. Suns Catcher Cole Leonida smacked a 2-run HR in the 6th inning for not only his first HR of the season, but also the first homer of his young professional career.
For Lakewood, Carlos Perdomo, Anthony Hewitt, Domingo Santana, and Travis Mattair all went 2-4 at the plate. Mattair led the BlueClaws with 2 RBI's, and Jeff Lanning was the only BlueClaw who batted to not strike out in the game. Miguel Alvarez was the only BlueClaw not to get at least 1 hit as he went 0-5. Jim Murphy chipped in with a big RBI double in the 7th inning to make it a 1 run game, but Hagerstown responded with 3 runs in the bottom of the inning to blow the game open.
Lakewood hits the road and heads across the state of Maryland to Salisbury where they will begin a 3 game series against the Delmarva Shorebirds on Friday night. RHP Lisalberto Bonilla (0-2, 1.83 ERA) will start for Lakewood and LHP Tim Berry (1-5, 5.16 ERA) will throw for Delmarva in the series opener. First Pitch on Friday is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
