
Shorebirds Level Series with 7-3 Win over Crawdads

Hickory, N.C - The Delmarva Shorebirds (13-18) recovered from a 2-0 early deficit to top the Hickory Crawdads (18-14) 7-3 at LP Frans Stadium on Tuesday night. The Shorebirds are 4-2 on the current road trip.
After two scoreless innings, the Crawdads used the home run ball to gain an advantage. In the third, Jordan Akins hit a line drive home run to center field to put the Crawdads in front 1-0. Then, Zach Cone hit a home run to open the fourth inning to grow the lead to 2-0.
The Shorebirds responded in the fifth inning. Wynston Sawyer and Sammie Starr hit back-to-back singles. Then, Mikey Planeta hit a grounder to short that bounced off the lip of the grass and into left-center field to score Wynston Sawyer. Hickory starter Nick Martinez issued three walks including two with the bases loaded to Michael Ohlman and Brenden Webb to put the 'Birds in front 3-2.
In the seventh inning, Nicky Delmonico extended the lead with a two-run blast to right field to put the Shorebirds in front 5-2.
Jordan Akins hit his second homer of the game to lead off the seventh to trim the deficit to 5-3.
In the ninth inning, the Shorebirds added to their lead. Jerome Pena led off with a drilled single into right field. Then, Delmonico was hit by a pitch for the second time in the game. After Michael Ohlman walked to load the bases, Connor Narron lifted a sacrifice fly to right field to stretch the lead to 6-3. Brenden Webb beat out a double play on a grounder to first to score Ohlman and increase the lead to 7-3.
Zach Petersime entered in the ninth inning and struck out Trever Adams to end the game. He allowed only one hit.
Eric Wooten tossed three innings and allowed just three hits and one run. He struck out one and did not issue a walk.
Shorebirds starter Eduardo Rodriguez earned the win over five innings, his second straight win over the Crawdads. He yielded eight hits and just two runs. Rodriguez fanned five and did not issue a walk.
The Shorebirds and Crawdads play game three of the series on Wednesday afternoon at 12:00pm. RHP Miguel Chalas is the scheduled starter for Delmarva.
