PREVIEW: The Shorebirds were shutout for a fourth time in game one last night, 7-0. The 'Birds look to even the series in game two against the Suns. Over the last 21 innings, the Shorebirds have plated just one run. With 13 games remaining in the first half, the Shorebirds are 11.0 games out of first place. Hagerstown picked up a game last night on Hickory, so the Suns stand four games out of first.
CONLEY BREAKS OUT: Brian Conley was 1-for-17 over his last seven games before breaking through for with two hits in game one. It was his first multi-hit game since May 26.
NO FIRST INNING RUNS: The Shorebirds have not scored a first-inning run in 18 straight games. The last time the 'Birds plated a run in the first inning was on May 19 against the West Virginia Power.
38 PERCENT: Hagerstown's Justin Bloxom has 25 hits against Delmarva this season, accounting for 38% of his total hits this season. Bloxom is batting .439 with six doubles and 11 RBIs against the 'Birds.
3 DOUBLES IN LAST 4: Garabez Rosa has been quiet of late but he does have three doubles in his last four games. Rosa went 2-for-4 last night to bump his average to .284. Rosa ranks sixth in the Orioles farm system.
@ CHRISTOPHER NEWPORT: He went 13-0 with a 1.97 ERA during his senior season at Newport. Moreland fanned 116 batters in 110 innings pitched. He set new school records for wins and ERA in a single season. Moreland also holds the Christopher Newport career marks for wins (35) and strikeouts (378). He was named a First Team All-American by D3baseball.com and the American Baseball Coaches Association. Moreland is the first CNU player to sign a professional contract directly out of school. He is just the second player from CNU to ever player affiliated baseball.
