Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Greenville, SC - Jorge Bucardo gave his Augusta GreenJackets a much-needed boost, firing eight innings of one-run ball in an 8-1 win on Sunday afternoon at Fluor Field against the Greenville Drive.

Bucardo (5-2) won his fifth straight decision and has thrown seven innings or more in his last two starts. He followed up a complete game on Memorial Day with an outing that saw Bucardo allow just one run on six hits with no walks and six strikeouts. For Bucardo, the start was his third of the year in which he didn't allow a walk and the righty is now 3-0 when he pitches seven or more innings in a game.

The Jackets got on the scoreboard with three straight two-out singles in the first, the last of which came from Luke Anders and put Augusta up 1-0. The GreenJackets scored three more in the second on RBI singles from Nick Liles and Ryan Cavan with a run-scoring double from Ryan Lollis sandwiched in the middle to go up by four.

After Greenville got their lone run of the game on a double play ball in the second, Augusta added to the lead on another Cavan RBI single in the fourth and a Tommy Joseph run-scoring groundout in the fifth. Evan Crawford's RBI double in the eighth was followed by a Liles sacrifice fly to cap Augusta's scoring on the afternoon.

Cavan and Crawford paced Augusta's 15-hit attack with three hits each. Cavan brought in a pair of runs as a result of his two singles while Crawford's hits were all for extra bases - two doubles and a triple.

Pete Ruiz (4-4) struggled in his first start of the year against the GreenJackets, allowing five runs on 11 hits in four innings. For the GreenJackets, Andy Reichard dealt a clean ninth inning in his first appearance of the season since joining the club on Saturday.

With the series knotted at a game apiece, the Jackets send BJ Salsbury (4-3, 3.71) to the mound on Monday night to face Manuel Rivera (2-5, 4.14). First pitch from Greenville will come at 7:05 p.m. with the pregame action beginning at 4:50 p.m. on WRDW AM 1630, www.greenjacketsbaseball.com and www.wrdwam.com.
