TODAY'S MATCHUPS

Game One: RH Phillip Irwin (1-0, 1.66) vs. LH Wes Musick (5-3, 4.82)

Game Two: RH Maurice Bankston (3-2, 3.93) vs. RH Alan DeRatt (2-0, 2.30)

SWEET SATURDAY NIGHT: West Virginia and Asheville matched zeros on the scoreboard through six innings, but the Power plated six runs in the seventh and five in the eighth en route to an 11-2 final over the Tourists. Jarek Cunningham hit a grand slam in the seventh inning, while Evan Chambers added a three-run shot in the eighth. Jason Erickson earned his team-high fifth win, and Gabriel Alvarado pitched the final three innings for his second save.

SLAM BAM CUNNINGHAM: Jarek Cunningham hit West Virginia's first grand slam of the 2010 season in the Power's Saturday night win. The Power had hit 33 home runs prior to the slam, including 21 solo home runs, nine two-run shots, and three three-run jimmy jacks. The 2009 edition of the Power hit 71 home runs, including three grand slams.

RUBINSTEIN ROLLS ON: Power outfielder David Rubinstein extended his current hitting streak to nine straight dating back to May 27. The right fielder is batting .382 during this eight game stretch, and has surpassed the previous season-best eight game runs by several West Virginia players this season. Jarek Cunningham, Rogelio Noris, and Evan Chambers each had eight game hitting streaks this year. Rubinstein's .331 average is third best in the South Atlantic League.

TWINBILL TODAY: The Power and Tourists will play a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon. The extra game will is scheduled to make-up the game postponed on April 19 at Appalachian Power Park when a malfunction in the irrigation system created unplayable grounds. It will be the third doubleheader of the season for West Virginia, having split a double dip at Kannapolis on April 25 and splitting two on May 18 against Delmarva.

AT ASHEVILLE: West Virginia trails the all-time series with the Tourists 19-21 heading into today's doubleheader, including an 8-9 record at McCormick Field since 2005.

MAY DAYS: West Virginia went 15-15 during the month of May and hit .229, ten points lower than their average in April when they went 9-12. The staff ERA in May, however, was 3.65, compared to 3.80 during the first month of the season. The Power also hit 21 home runs in May, compared to nine during April.

POWER POINTS: The Power were shutout for the sixth time this season on Sunday, surpassing their 2009 season-long total... West Virginia is now 4-5 on Fridays this season and have a 7-1 record on Saturdays... The Power are 20-19 since Gary Green moved Evan Chambers to the top of the order. The outfielder has a .419 on-base percentage since moving to the top of the lineup... Jarek Cunningham's grand slam Saturday marked the first time this season that a Power player drove in more than three runs in a game, which had happened nine different times.

AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh doubled up San Francisco 6-3 at PNC Park... Indianapolis beat Columbus 7-2. Brandon Jones hit his third home run of the season for the Indians... Altoona lost at New Hampshire 5-3... Bradenton slipped past Brevard County 4-3. Robbie Grossman drove in a pair of runs with a double for the Marauders.
