The Hickory Crawdads scored early and often as they romped past the Lexington Legends 18-9 Sunday in Hickory.

The Crawdads pounded out 18 hits and scored 18 runs in the first five innings. A two-run homer by Ed Koncel put Hickory in front in the first inning. In the second, a sacrifice fly by Jared Prince, a three-run homer by Cristian Santana and a solo shot from Mike Ortiz produced five runs to give Hickory a 7-0 lead. Prince hit a two-run homer in the third to make the score 9-0. Hickory scored four in the fourth, and added five in the fifth to push the lead to 18-0. Prince drove home a run in each inning, and had four hits and five RBI for the game.

Lexington Christian Academy graduate Robbie Ross earned his eighth win of the season after working the first six innings. He allowed five hits and one run, ending a streak of 27 innings in which Ross (8-4) had permitted no earned runs. Ross is now tied for the South Atlantic League lead in wins.

The Legends, after scoring one against Ross in the sixth inning, added six runs in the eighth, two coming home on a double by Jordan Comadena, and two in the ninth.

Aaron Bray and Kody Hinze each drove in two runs for the Legends. Hinze, who had three hits, leads the South Atlantic League with 55 RBI.

Lexington starter David Duncan (3-2), who was relieved with two outs in the second inning, was the losing pitcher.

The Legends and Crawdads have split the first two games of the four-game series, which resumes with an 11 a.m. game Monday.
