STAT OF THE NIGHT: Riley Hornback has batted in six different spots in the order and has played four different position in addition to being the designated hitter. Ty Kelly has batted in seven different spots in the order until he found a home batting third.
PREVIEW: The Shorebirds have dropped the last two games as they aim to split the series with Lakewood by winning the finale. With 31 games remaining, the Shorebirds are in seventh place in the Northern Division, eight games out of first place. Both teams have struggled to produce runs in the series; Lakewood is 4-for-26 with runners in scoring position while the Shorebirds are 4-for-18. There have also been long spells without runs. Lakewood went scoreless in game one, Delmarva scored just one run over the first innings of game two and went without a run in game three.
TOLLIVER TERRIFIC: Left-handed relief pitcher Ashur Tolliver has been unhittable over the last month and a half. After three more scoreless innings last night, he has worked 13 straight innings (over seven appearances) without allowing a run. In his last 11 outings (19 IP), he has allowed one earned run (0.47 ERA). Tolliver has 21 strikeouts to just six walks during the stretch. Since June 18, his ERA has dipped from 5.17 to 2.60.
BEST STRETCH FOR GAYLORD: Adam Gaylord has seven hits in his last five games. His .209 batting average is the highest it has been since July 14 (.210). Gaylord has reached base in seven straight games.
TIM BERRY LOVES LAKEWOOD: Last night, Tim Berry tossed a four-hit shutout of Lakewood over five innings. In four starts this season against the 'Claws, he has allowed 18 hits and just five runs in 20 innings pitched (2.25 ERA). Berry has not allowed a run in his last two starts against Lakewood.
MODEL OF CONSISTENCY: Through 23 games with the Shorebirds, Joe Oliveira's batting average has dipped below .300 only time (7/6, .296). He has hit safely in 19 of 23 games this season. He is 4-for-8 in the current series.
12 OF 13: Jeremy Nowak has reached base in 12 of his last 13 games dating back to July 20. He has reached in six straight games.
15 STRAIGHT WITHOUT ERROR: Mike Mooney has played 15 straight games without an error at second base. He only has one error in 21 games at second.
