Miss Babe Ruth Auction Won by Local Fan

(GREENSBORO) After her recent theft and prompt return, Miss Babe Ruth will finally have a place to call home, thanks to a recent eBay auction.

Bob Jones of Summerfield placed the $1025.00 bid for the statue in the last minute of the auction, securing the statue and accompanying prize pack.

"This is a personal donation from me and really my way to say thanks to the team for making Greensboro a great place to live and work," said Jones. "Babe is going home and will sit on our covered porch and be a tribute to the Hoppers and to our own two Labs."

The Greensboro Grasshoppers placed the opportunity to own the recovered Miss Babe Ruth statue and prize pack in a 10-day auction on eBay, which began Friday, July 15. In total, the statue received 38 bids from 14 interested buyers.

"We are honored that so many people took an interest in giving Miss Babe Ruth a good home after her recent ordeal," said President and General Manager Donald Moore. "What started as a senseless prank turned in to a beneficial donation to a very worthy cause."

Moore will present the donation of $1000.00, earmarked for veterinary services of the Greensboro Police Department K-9 Unit, during the August 16th City Council meeting.
