Shorebirds Game Notes vs. Hagerstown

PREVIEW: The Shorebirds thrilled the home crowd with a pair of comeback victories in a double- header against Hagerstown. Delmarva erased a 6-0 deficit, notching a 7-6 walkoff win with three runs in the seventh. In the nightcap, Drew Dosch launched a tie-breaking home run in the sixth. Jimmy Yacabonis shut the door for his league-best 12th save of the year.

TODAY'S OPPONENT: Hector Silvestre will start on Tuesday evening for Hagerstown. The left- hander is 1-1 with a 2.83 ERA in seven starts this season. Silvestre lost his last start against the Asheville Tourists with six runs allowed in six innings on Thursday. The Suns' starter has not faced Delmarva in 2014. Silvestre went 7-0 with a 1.82 ERA in 13 appearances for the GCL Nats.

19TH SEASON: The 2014 season marks the 19th season of Shorebirds baseball on the Eastern Shore and 18th straight year as a Baltimore Orioles affiliate. The Shorebirds' first season was 1996 as a Montreal Expos farm team.

ORIOLES WATCH: The Baltimore Orioles won their own comeback game at Milwaukee on Memo- rial Day Monday with a 7-6 victory in 10 innings. Former 2011 Shorebird Jonathan Schoop hit two home runs, including a solo shot in the 9th inning. Nick Markakis extended the game with an RBI double in the 9th. The O's then won with a go-ahead RBI single in the 10th by their newest mem- ber, Nick Hundley. Baltimore is now 26-23 on the year in 3rd place in the AL East.

THE IRON IS HOT: 19 out of the 25 players on the Shorebirds active roster appeared for the Ab- erdeen IronBirds in 2013. The IronBirds put together an impressive season, making the playoffs for the first time in their 12-year franchise history. Aberdeen won the McNamara Division in the New York-Penn League with a 40-32 record. The IronBirds lost in the first round of the NYPL play- offs, losing 2 games to 0 against the Tri-City Valley Cats.

WHO'S HOT/WHO ELSE

On Thursday night, Vader pitched seven solid in- nings in a 5-1 win for Delmarva. It was the fifth consecutive victory for Vader, all coming in his last five starts. The Shore- birds' starter has now improved to 6-1, tied for the second-most wins in the South Atlantic League. Vader has also lowered his ERA to 3.16 on the season.

WHO'S HOT - JIMMY YACABONIS

Through his first 15 appearances, the Del- marva closer has yet to allow a run. Yacabo- nis is perfect 11-for-11 in save opportunities with a 1-0 record. In 17.0 innings, Yacabonis has struck out 23 batters.

WHO ELSE - JEFF KEMP

Jeff Kemp went 4-for-4 on Sunday with an RBI triple to help Delmarva to a four- game sweep of Kannapolis. The Delmarva shortstop just had a 10-game hitting streak snapped in game two on Monday.
