Tourists Rally Late to Beat Legends 10-9

(ASHEVILLE, N.C.) The Asheville Tourists rallied with two runs in the eighth inning and two runs in the ninth to get a 10-9 win over the Lexington Legends Tuesday night.

The Legends led 9-6 going into the bottom of the eighth inning. Ashley Graeter led off with a double, and moved to third on a wild pitch. Max White struck out, but with Cesar Galvez at the plate, Legends pitcher Matt Alvarez was called for a balk, allowing Grater to score. Galvez popped out to second base, but David Dahl drew a walk and Zach Osborne singled, sending Dahl to second. Osborne, a native of Louisville who played at Pleasure Ridge Park High School and the University of Tennessee, had four hits in the game. Raimel Tapia followed with another hit, and Dahl scored to cut the lead to one at 9-8.

With one out in the bottom of the ninth. Jordan Patterson homered to tie the game. Jose Briceno followed with a triple. Graeter was intentionally walked, putting runners at first and third. White hit a ground ball that was fielded by second baseman Kevin Kuntz as he moved to his left. Kuntz, who had no play at home, tried to start a double play with a throw to second. Graeter was out at second, but White reached first safely as the winning run scored.

Alfredo Escalera led off the game with a home run for Lexington. The Legends added a run in the

second inning, but Asheville evened the score in the bottom of the second on White's two-run homer.

Frank Schwindel and Fred Ford hit solo homers for the Legends in the third inning, putting Lexington up

4-2. The Legends added another run in the fifth and two more in the sixth to take a 7-2 lead.

The Tourists came back with four runs in the bottom of the sixth. Patterson led off with a single and came home on a double by Briceno. Graeter was hit by a pitch, and White and Galvez flied out, but Dahl doubled home two runs. After Matt Alvarez relieved starter Matt Tenuta, Osborne singled home Dahl to make the score 7-6.

The Legends extended the lead to 9-6 with two runs in the top of the eighth. Kuntz singled, was sacrificed to second by Escalera, and moved to third on a single by Dominique Taylor. Schwindel's sacrifice fly scored Kuntz. Taylor then stole second and scored on a base hit by Mauricio Ramos.

Graeter led off the bottom of the eighth with a double. He moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a balk. With two outs, Dahl walked and Osborne singled. Dahl scored on a single by Raimel Tapia before Osborne was tagged out in a rundown between second and third, leaving the score at 9-8 and setting the stage for the Tourists ninth-inning comeback.

Andrew Brown (1-0), who entered the game in the eighth inning, got the win. Alex Black, who relieved Alvarez at the start of the ninth inning, was the losing pitcher.

The Tourists have taken the first two games of the series, which concludes Wednesday. Game time is 11:05 a.m.
