
Power Walked off after Rally

(Rome, GA- May 27, 2014)- The West Virginia Power lost 5-4 on Tuesday to the Rome Braves at State Mutual Stadium. After the Power tied the game at four in the top of the ninth, the Braves tagged Brett McKinney for three hits in the bottom of the inning, including a walk-off single by Conner Lien.
Rome took a 1-0 lead off West Virginia starter Cody Dickson in the third inning. Lien doubled to start the inning and scored when Seth Moranda reached on an errant throw by Power second baseman Erich Weiss.
West Virginia took a 3-1 lead in the top of the fourth. With two on and one out, Justin Maffei singled in Weiss to even the score at one. Danny Collins scored on a wild pitch and Maffei crossed on a ground out to pitcher Matt Marksberry. The Braves, however, plated three in the fourth on two hits and three Power errors to regain the lead 4-3.
In the ninth, Maffei singled, moved to second on a ground out and scored on a Harold Ramirez two-base hit with two outs. In the home half of the inning, Victor Caratini singled off McKinney and moved to third with one out on a double by Carlos Franco. Lien bounced a ball over the drawn in West Virginia infield to plate Caratini for the walk-off win.
Dickson did not factor in the decision, working six innings while striking out four and walking none. Felipe Gonzalez worked two perfect frames before passing the ball to McKinney (1-2) in the ninth. Stephen Janas (1-0) worked four innings was charged with a blown save before earning the win in his South Atlantic League debut.
West Virginia concludes this series at Rome Wednesday afternoon at 1:00 pm. The Power send Juston Topa to the hill against the Braves and A.J. Holland.
