Asheville Tourists News Release
Asheville, NC-- The Asheville Tourists held the lead over the Lexington Legends one time on Tuesday night, and it was right when it mattered. Asheville scraped, clawed, and fought their way to victory at McCormick Field with a 10-9 walk-off win in the bottom of the ninth.
The rallies were fierce and the scoring was consistent, but in the end the home team came through with their second walk-off win of the season. Asheville played from behind the entire way as Lexington built a 7-2 lead behind three solo Home Runs. The Tourists two runs came on a two-run Home Run by Max White.
Asheville plated four runs in the bottom of the sixth to make it a one run deficit and that ignited the home crowd. Jose Briceno had an RBI double, David Dahl plated two with a double, and Zach Osborne knocked in a run with a single to cap the sixth inning spurt.
The Legends plated a pair of runs in the top of the eighth behind a sacrifice fly and a two-out RBI single by Mauricio Ramos; but the Tourists never went away. In the bottom of the eighth Ashley Graeter doubled to lead off the inning, went to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a balk.
With the bases empty, Dahl worked a two-out walk then took second on an Osborne single.
Raimel Tapia knocked in Dahl with a single to right and the lead was back at one, 9-8.
In the bottom of the ninth Jordan Patterson crushed a solo Home Run to right; knotting the game 9-9. The next batter, Briceno, tripled off the centerfield wall. After the Legends intentionally walked Graeter, White came through with the game winner; a ground ball to the right side of the infield. Lexington tried to turn a double play which would have ended the inning, but White flew down the line and touched first base to seal the win as Briceno crossed the plate.
Briceno finished 3-for-5 with two doubles and a triple and Osborne ended up 4-for-5. Dahl, Tapia, and Patterson all recorded multi-hit games. Asheville pounded out a season high 17 hits and have scored at least ten runs in six of their last eight games played at McCormick Field.
