STAT OF THE DAY: After hitting just .217 with 13 home runs in 29 games in May, the Shorebirds are batting .244 with eight homers through nine games in June. The Shorebirds have 27 extra base hits in June (3 per). They averaged less than 2 per in May.
PREVIEW: After a 4-2 loss to Lakewood at Perdue Stadium on Sunday, the Shorebirds travel to Lakewood for a four-game series starting with a doubleheader on Monday. Lakewood scored runs in the sixth and ninth innings yesterday to top the Shorebirds. Jason Esposito had both RBIs and Sammie Starr scored both runs. The Shorebirds have eight games left in the first half.
BACK-TO-BACK SERIES WINS: The Shorebirds have secured back-to-back series wins for the first time this season. They have not won three straight series this season. The last time the Shorebirds won three straight series was between April 19 and May 3 of last season when they won 11 of 14 games (including 11 in a row).
FOWLER'S DOMINANCE: Zach Fowler has not allowed an earned run in seven consecutive outings to lower his ERA from 11.25 (April 28) to 2.70 (current). He has not allowed an earned run in 12.2 consecutive innings. During the time frame, Fowler has a 19:1 strikeout to walk ratio. He has given up just eight hits in the last 12.2 innings.
ESPOSITO'S POWER: Jason Esposito has two home runs in the last four games including a two-run homer on Saturday. Esposito hit just one home run in his first 54 games. He has reached base in five straight games. Esposito has four extra base hits in the last four games.
STARR'S PLAY: Sammie Starr has three hits in his last two games played, both doubles. He scored the only two runs for the Shorebirds on Sunday. Starr has reached base in four straight games played.
2ND IN SYSTEM: Glynn Davis ranks second in the Orioles farm system with 15 stolen bases. John Ruettiger (Frederick) leads the chain with 17 stolen bases. Davis has a stolen base in each of his last two games.
