Delmonico Leads Shorebirds to Doubleheader Split

Lakewood, NJ - Nicky Delmonico drove in four runs in the doubleheader including three in a game two win on Monday night at FirstEnergy Park. The Shorebirds won game two of the doubleheader by a final of 6-4 in 11 innings. Lakewood survived a late rally by Delmarva to win game one 2-1.

In game one, Lakewood took a 2-0 lead in the fourth on an RBI single by Bob Stumpo.

The Shorebirds trimmed the gap on a single in the sixth inning by Delmonico to score Glynn Davis, who reached on a lead off walk.

With the bases loaded in the seventh, Kyle Hoppy bounced into a double play to end the game.

Shorebirds starter Matt Taylor pitched well, but took the loss. In six innings, he gave up six hits and two runs.

In the game two, the Shorebirds trailed 4-3 heading into the seventh inning. Davis hit a double down the right field to start the inning. He moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Mikey Planeta. Then, Delmonico hit a liner through the left side of the infield to tie the game at 4-4.

In the 11th inning, Delmonico hit a single into left-center field to score two runs, which gave the Shorebirds a 6-4 lead. The 19-year old leads the Shorebirds with 41 RBIs.

Matt Bywater earned the win over 4.1 innings. He allowed just two hits.

David Baker entered in the bottom of the 11th and retired the BlueClaws in order to end the game.

The Shorebirds and BlueClaws play game three of the series on Tuesday night at 7:05pm. LHP Eduardo Rodriguez is the scheduled starter for Delmarva.
