Suns Burn Crawdads in Series Opener

HAGERSTOWN, MD - The Hagerstown Suns cruised to the 9-0 win against the Hickory Crawdads, before 871 fans at Municipal Stadium in Hagerstown on Monday night.
The Suns (39-24) took the lead in the bottom of the first and never looked back. Facing RHP Santo Perez (L, 2-5), Hagerstown struck for the game's first run on an RBI single by SS Jason Martinson, plating 2B Cutter Dykstra for the 1-0 lead.
The Suns then added one run in the second on an RBI double by CF Brian Goodwin, before tacking on two more in the bottom of the third. 3B Matt Skole hit the inning's first pitch over the center field wall for a solo homer, followed by a double from RF Steven Souza. After a foul out, Souza came in on an RBI base hit by 1B Justin Miller, making it 4-0.
The Crawdads (34-29) kept Hagerstown off the board in the fourth, but the Suns plated a pair of runs in the fifth. With one down, a Miller double was followed by an RBI triple from C Cole Leonida, who then scored on an RBI single by LF Billy Burns to stretch the lead to 6-0.
Three more runs in the bottom of the sixth capped the scoring. With runners at second and third and one out, DH Cole Ramsey bounced an RBI ground out to first base, scoring Skole from third and moving Souza to third base. Miller then struck again with an RBI single to plate Souza, before racing home from first on an RBI double by Leonida, increasing the Suns lead to 9-0.
While the Hagerstown offense was swinging away, Suns LHP Christian Meza (W, 4-1) kept the 'Dads bats at bay through his five scoreless innings. RHP Chris McKenzie and RHP Pedro Encarnacion then logged two scoreless innings apiece, closing the 9-0 win for Hagerstown.
