Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
Game 1:
LAKEWOOD, N.J. - Harold Martinez tagged the first base bag and threw home to Bob Stumpo to tag out Connor Narron to end the 2-1 BlueClaws victory with a double-play.
With the bases loaded and one out, Kyle Hoppy hit a chopper to Martinez at first base. Martinez fielded the ball, stepped on first base and threw home all in one motion to get Narron out as he collided with Stumpo to end the ballgame.
Colin Kleven held the Delmarva Shorebirds to one run in 6.1 innings with and Colton Murray entered with one out and a runner on first base but was able to get the save with 0.2 innings of scoreless baseball.
Game 2:
LAKEWOOD, N.J. - Nicky Delmonico singled home two runs with two outs in the 11th inning for the game-winning runs in Delmarva's 6-4 win Monday night.
The runs were allowed by Jim Birmingham who entered the game with the bases loaded and two outs in the 11th. The runs came off Matt Campbell who had pitched 3.2 scoreless innings up to that point, but was charged with his third loss of the season.
The BlueClaws used Kyrell Hudson as a pinch-runner in the 6th inning and were forced to lose the designated hitter when Chris Duffy switched from playing DH to being a first baseman over the final five innings. In doing so, the BlueClaws faced a situation where the pitcher needed to bat as the No. 6 batter in the lineup. Campbell calmly lined a single into center field to begin the 10th inning for Lakewood on the second pitch he saw. He would be stranded on second base as the BlueClaws failed to score and the game headed to the 11th inning.
In the 6th inning, Gauntlett Eldemire doubled home the game-tying run and then came home to score the game-winning run on consecutive wild pitches to give the BlueClaws a 4-3 lead. The lead would disappear in the top of the 7th with an RBI single by Delmonico to tie the game 4-4 with one out.
The BlueClaws and Shorebirds will play their sixth game in five days Tuesday at FirstEnergy Park. Lakewood will send Ramon Oviedo (1-3, 8.35) will start against Delmarva's Eduardo Rodriguez (2-1, 2.09) in Game 3 of the series.
