STAT OF THE DAY: The Shorebirds have scored ten first inning runs on the seven-game road trip. They scored only one first inning run in their eight-game homestand to start the 2011 season. The 'Birds have given up nine first inning runs during the trip.
PREVIEW: The Shorebirds survived a late rally by Augusta in game three as they aim to level the series in game four. The Shorebirds led 8-2 after five innings but Augusta plated three runs in the eighth inning and left the tying run on base in the bottom of the ninth inning. The Shorebirds avoided their first five-game losing skid of the season.
GOOD STRIKEOUT TO WALK RATIOS: Several Shorebirds have impressive strikeout to walk ratios this season. Jonathan Schoop has more walks (7) than strikeouts (6). Kipp Schutz has seven walks and eight strikeouts, Manny Machado has nine walks and nine strikeouts and Trent Mummey has ten walks and 11 strikeouts. The Shorebirds lead the league with 63 walks.
A RUN SCORER: Trent Mummey has scored at least one run in six consecutive games dating back to April 15. He has scored eight runs during the stretch. Interestingly enough, Mummey scored only one run in his first eight games played.
8 RBI ROAD TRIP: Kieron Pope has eight RBIs on the current seven-game road trip. He had another RBI last night in the fifth inning. Pope has reached base in eight consecutive games and has recorded two hits in each of the last three games.
HIGH SCORING ROAD TRIP: Through seven games on the current road swing, the Shorebirds and their opponents have combined for 101 runs (14.42 per game). Their lowest scoring game on the road trip was a 6-2 win over Greensboro on April 15.
12 OF 13: Kipp Schutz has hit safely in 12 of 13 games played this season. He went 2-for-4 last night with a run scored and two RBIs. Schutz has reached base in all 13 games this season. The 13 game on-base streak ranks tied for second in the South Atlantic League with teammate Jonathan Schoop and two other players. Bryce Brentz of Greenville is on a 14-game on-base streak.
