Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Augusta, GA - For the fourth night in a row, the Augusta GreenJackets came into the bottom of the ninth looking for a win. The first two times they struck gold and the last two, they struck out. A line drive double play killed a ninth inning rally as the GreenJackets dropped a 6-5 decision on Friday night to the Delmarva Shorebirds.

In a series where all four games have been decided by a run, Carlos Willoughby drew a walk to open the ninth inning with the GreenJackets trailing 6-4. Raynor Campbell followed with an RBI double to left-center to cut the deficit to one. On the first pitch he saw, Adam Duvall followed with a bloop single to right to put the winning run on first for Josh Mazzola. The first baseman flew out to left before Devin Harris drilled a liner to third and Delmarva's Jonathan Schoop threw to first base after making the catch to double up Duvall for the game-ending double play.

For just the fifth time this season, the GreenJackets struck first on an Adam Duvall RBI single in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. Shawn Sanford, in his first start of the season for the GreenJackets, made it stand in one of the best starts delivered by an Augusta starter this season. Sanford fired six innings and allowed just two runs - one earned - on four hits and a walk with four strikeouts.

The Shorebirds tied the game at one in the fifth on a groundout, but Augusta reclaimed the lead in the bottom half of the inning. The GreenJackets sent eight to the plate and scored twice on two hits and three walks. A sacrifice fly from Ydwin Villegas put the GreenJackets ahead while Josh Mazzola drew a bases loaded walk to put Augusta up by a pair.

The 3-1 lead held until the seventh when the Shorebirds sent eight to the plate and scored three times. Michael Ohlman's one-out RBI single brought Augusta to within a run and later in the inning, Brendan Webb's sacrifice fly tied things at three. With two outs on Schoop, Gaspar Santiago uncorked a wild pitch to allow the go-ahead run to trot home from third. In the eighth, Delmarva added two more on a Kipp Schutz RBI triple and a sacrifice fly from Mike Flacco.

Back-to-back two-out doubles from Sundrendy Windster and Rafael Rodriguez allowed the GreenJackets to cut the Delmarva lead to 6-4 in the eighth inning, setting the stage for the dramatics in the ninth.

Edwin Escobar (1-3) took his second loss of the series, allowing two runs on a hit and two walks in the seventh inning. Jarret Martin (1-1) threw three innings of one-run ball to get the win for the Shorebirds. David Walters survived a bumpy ninth for his fifth save of the season.

The rubber match between these two teams is set for Saturday night as Augusta sends Taylor Rogers (0-2, 5.00) to the mound to face Luis Noel (0-1, 6.43). It'll be another Sparkling Saturday as the GreenJackets will end their first homestand of the year with a postgame fireworks spectacular. First pitch will come at 7:05 with the pregame action beginning at 6:50, airing online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com.
