Crawdads Suffer Suns Slugfest

Hagerstown, MD-After falling in the first three games of their home series with the Hickory Crawdads (11-6), the Hagerstown Suns (10-6) offense exploded for 17 runs off 14 hits to slug their way to victory on Friday night at Municipal Stadium to the tune of a 17-1 win.

Suns RHP Taylor Jordan (4-0) was the winning pitcher after taking a perfect game into the 5th frame. Jordan went 6.0 scoreless innings, allowing just four hits, while walking one, and fanning three.

Hickory RHP Carlos Melo (2-1), the losing pitcher, could not find the strike zone, allowing a whopping five base-on-balls in 1.1 innings and surrendering five earned runs. The relief corps of the Crawdads faltered allowing a combined nine earned runs on 13 base hits.

Hagerstown RF Bryce Harper had a career night at the plate, going 3-for-3, with 6 RBI, 3 runs scored, and a stolen base, including a 2-run 4th inning home run blast over both tiers of signage in right-center field. Harper also collected a 2-RBI double two innings earlier.

Suns 3B Blake Kelso also had a huge night with the bat, garnering a line of 3-for-4, a run scored, a double, 4 RBI, and two walks. Five Suns swatters had multi-hit efforts including Harper and Kelso in addition to C David Freitas, 1B Mills Rogers, and DH Wade Moore. Complementing the efforts of the College of Southern Nevada prospect and the standout from the University of Houston, Moore, from Catawba College had a 3 RBI night.

The Suns and Crawdads will do battle for the final time in Hagerstown tomorrow, on a premium giveaway Saturday night at Municipal Stadium. First pitch of the Game 5 finale is scheduled for 6:35pm.
