Savannah Sand Gnats News Release

SAVANNAH, GA - Lexington Legends catcher Chris Wallace was 4-5 with two triples and a home run to lead the Lexington Legends to a 6-3 victory over the Sand Gnats Friday night at Historic Grayson Stadium. For the third night in a row, the victorious team used a four-run inning to take control of the game. Wednesday and Thursday, the Gnats (7-8) came from behind for the win, but Friday, the Legends (8-8) returned the favor with a four-run seventh.

Savannah took a 2-0 lead in the third inning. 2B Wilfredo Tovar and CF Rafael Fernandez drew walks and SS Robbie Shields reached on an error to load the bases. 1B Sam Honeck brought home a run with a groundout to second and then LF Cory Vaughn doubled down the left field line to bring home Fernandez for a 2-0 Savannah advantage. Tovar was a perfect 2-2 at the plate with a single and a double, two walks and a run scored Friday night.

Savannah starter Gonzalez Germen kept the Legends at bay through four innings, until the Legends picked up one run in the fifth inning to make the score 2-1.

Chase Huchingson relieved Germen in the sixth and was greeted by Wallace, who tripled to right-center field. Wallace scored the tying run a batter later on a wild pitch.

In the seventh, four straight Legends reached with one out to snap the 2-2 tie. With two on, 1B Telvin Nash singled into left to put the Legends ahead 3-2. Wallace followed with a long three-run home run to left for a 6-2 Legends lead.

Savannah rallied in the ninth, loading the bases with one out, brining the tying run to the plate. Honeck brought home the Gnats' third run with a sacrifice fly, but Vaughn grounded out to end the game.

The Gnats will conclude their five-game series and nine-game home stand Saturday when they send RHP Greg Peavey (1-1, 3.86) to the hill against Lexington RHP Mike Foltynewicz (0-3, 4.76). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 pm and gates will open at 5 pm. The pregame show will begin on News/Talk 630 and sandgnats.com at 5:50 pm.
