Delmarva Shorebirds News Release
Salisbury, MD - The Delmarva Shorebirds topped the Kannapolis Intimidators with a 5-1 final score on Thursday night. The first game of eight contests in seven days at Perdue Stadium was a comfortable win thanks to strong pitching from Sebastian Vader and Jon Keller.
The Shorebirds (24-21) jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. In the first inning, the first four batters reached off Intimidators' starter James Dykstra. Yastrzemski walked and stole second base, his ninth steal of the year. Delmarva opened the scoring when the next batter, Jeff Kemp, lined an RBI single to left. Drew Dosch sliced an RBI triple to the left-center gap, and Trey Mancini followed with his own RBI base hit. Mancini later scored on a groundout by Conor Bierfeldt.
Up 4-0, Sebastian Vader coasted on the hill, looking for his fifth straight win. Vader allowed a run in the second, but it was all zeroes elsewhere. Carl Thomore stroked an RBI single to score Jacob Morris who led off the frame with a double to the right field corner.
Delmarva got the run back with another tally in the third inning. Dosch and Mancini combined again to produce another run. Dosch finished 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Mancini went 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
Vader finished his night with seven innings of work, surrendering one run on five hits. The right-hander kept the ball low in zone, inducing 14 groundball outs. Vader picked up his fifth win in his last five starts, moving to 6-1 on the year. Jon Keller pitched two scoreless innings in relief to close out the win. James Dykstra lost for Kannapolis, dropping to 2-5 on the season.
The Shorebirds and Intimidators continue their four-game series on Friday night. Luc Rennie (1-3, 6.37) will start for Delmarva against Kannapolis right-hander Thaddius Lowry (0-1, 1.80). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm at Perdue Stadium.
