Worcester Red Sox News Release
The Boston Red Sox have been riddled with injuries throughout the month of June, losing starters Nathan Eovaldi and Garrett Whitlock, along with utility men Kikè Hernandez and Christian Arroyo.
With the help of several WooSox players, including Jarren Duran (.329/.388/.521) and Rob Refsnyder (.308/.387/.500), Boston went 20-6 in the month of June. Leading the contributions has been RHP John Schreiber. Recalled from Worcester on May 6, Schreiber has thrown 27.1 innings, posting a 0.66 ERA (2 earned runs), with 32 K's and 3 saves in his lone opportunities.
Taking it a step further, Schreiber has produced a 0.66 WHIP with a 10.54 K/9 ratio. Along with striking hitters out, Schreiber has also been stingy handing out free passes, sporting a 5.33 K/BB ratio. Schreiber has been equally impressive against righties and lefties with a .120 BAA lefties and a .132 BAA righties. His splits equal a .129 AVG allowed. He also produced a scoreless month of June over 12 innings in 14 appearances. In 15 games on the road, Schreiber has yet to allow a run, striking out 18 in 15.2 innings while holding opponents to a .080 batting average.
The Sox have struggled in the back-end of their bullpen early in the season and Schreiber has provided much needed support. He has quickly evolved into one of Alex Cora's most trusted arms out of the bullpen as he continues to shine in high leverage situations. Perhaps his most important statistic, Schreiber has stranded all 14 of his runners inherited this season.
Acquired in February of 2021, Schreiber pitched almost all of 2021 in Worcester, sporting a 2.71 ERA in 66.1 innings over 33 appearances. In his lone appearance with Boston in 2021, he tossed 3 innings, allowing 1 run and 5 strikeouts. Before being scooped up by Boston, Schreiber spent two years with the Detroit Tigers. In 2020, he appeared in 15 games posting a 6.32 ERA in 15.2 innings. In 11.2 more innings this season, Schreiber has only 2 more walks with 18 more strikeouts. Over the past two seasons, Schreiber has developed into one of the best bullpen arms in the majors, etching out a pivotal role in the Red Sox bullpen.
